MeasureIt: Firefox Addon, A Must have tool for Web-Developer

MeasureIt is a useful utility to help in measuring the on screen display in a Web-Browser. It is must have measuring tool for every web-developer, designer or any technical person; heck, even a regular Joe would find a good use for it ! It’s really a very simple to use Mozilla Firefox add-on for increased productivity.

It Draw a ruler across any webpage to check the width, height, or alignment of page elements in pixels.

Instructions for Use:


1. click the MeasureIt button MeasureIt icon in the status bar or toolbar to turn it on/off
2. click and drag out a ruler box
3. click and hold to move the ruler box
4. Arrow Keys to adjust size of ruler box by 1px
5. Arrow Keys + SHIFT to adjust size of ruler box by 5px
6. click and drag bottom right corner of ruler box to resize
7. CTRL + Arrow Keys to nudge ruler by 1px
8. CTRL + SHIFT + Arrow Keys to nudge ruler by 5px
9. click the “X” to close that ruler or click outside of it to begin drawing another ruler
10. ESC key to turn off MeasureIt

Known Issues (in order of importance)

  1. when page refreshes, ruler closes yet value still set to “on”
  2. no scrolling individual frames in frameset
  3. flash objects disappear when MeasureIt is activated
